EFFICIENT MARKET HYPOTHESYS TESTING FOR THE RUSSIAN STOCK MARKET
Kuban State University
This paper focuses on testing the Russian stock market for the weak-form efficiency under EMH. We use random walk test, unit root tests, runs test and tests for serial correlation to find out the market exhibits efficiency in the weak form.
Keywords: Efficient Market Hypothesys; EMH; Russian stock market; random walk; volatility; Augmented Dickey-Fuller test; Phillips-Perron test; serial correlation; Ljung-Box test; Box-Pierce test; runs test; GARCH.

Our paper stems its roots to the determination of the strength with which stock prices echo existing applicable information and, therefore, the extent of possibility to achieve abnormal returns by investors who have access to this information. The empirical tests for the efficiency of financial markets serve this problem's resolution. Thus, we aim to test efficiency of the Russian stock market and ascertain the form of market efficiency under the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH).
